about

Architecture Recordings ARX040 Kobra - Last Light EP

Dubai/Toronto based producer Moez Munshi unveils his newly minted Drum & Bass project: Kobra. No stranger to electronic music having previously released Deep House and Techno under the name "Uforiq" and Minimal Dubstep as "OuterDub", Munshi's taste for all things deep and minimal led him to explore similar leaning sounds with in the realm of Drum & Bass. Here as Kobra he steps up to DJ Ink's Architecture Recordings with four tracks of low slung tribal half step rising from the murky depths of the underground. Organ displacing bass hums, pummeling amazon kicks drums, submarine bleeps, and menacing atmospherics, combine with distant percussive rhythms locking your mind into a trance-like stoned groove.

"Apache" builds an icy sense of dread threw almost "2001 space odyssey - esque" soundscapes.

"Cloak Engaged" similarly evokes imagery of underwater mystery.

The paranoia peaks on "Fear Machine" as Kobra expertly crafts droning sweeps around his riddim track imparting visions of lunar space walks gone wrong.

The EP culminates in "Last Light", where Kobra's emotive pads and synth washes beautify his percussive template taking the listener on a journey from the cold into the warmth.

Yet another stellar release from one of Drum & Bass's most consistently boundary pushing labels.
